These paintings are my response to memories of time spent walking along the ocean's shore, specifically the beach on Kiawah Island, a place of great natural beauty situated along the edge of South Carolina's storied Low Country. The works seek to capture the experience of being in that place -- the vision of the vast ocean stretching to the horizon and the endless sky overhead, the feel of the sand underfoot and the breezes all around me, the sound of the waves rolling in, the calls and movements of sea birds flying overhead, and my own reflections on the rich but troubled history and heritage of the Low Country.
