2022: New Explorations

These exploratory works on paper have been my primary focus in early 2022. They spring directly from the other series of works in Going Home. Last year's drawings, paintings, collages and mixed media works have generated symbols, marks, shapes, forms and ideas that I am developing in these most recent works. I find that the new work is pushing me toward evolving methods of greater abstraction. The resulting new imagery is sometimes representational, sometimes non-representational, and often in between -- merely suggesting familiar and somewhat mysterious forms. The new work is inextricably connected with the earlier work; all is grounded in my memories of life in the south, the abiding sense of that place that I wish to convey in my work, and my experience of returning home.
