Ancient But Beloved History: BAA-MERICA!
Once upon a time I was a fiber artist, and my medium was crochet. The crowning achievement of this period of my life was my solo show of crocheted sheep sculptures, which was held at the Art League Gallery in Alexandria, VA in 2011, entitled BAA-MERICA! Each sheep represents an American icon, and was made with much care and love. I include them here as an important part of my checkered artistic history.
Four of the sheep (Louis, Andy, Liberace and Martha) are currently on view at: "FOLKSY, Cultural Traditions and Outside Visions," at the Annemarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center in Solomon's Island, Maryland, April 26-September 22, 2019. They won the juror's prize in the following category: "If it makes you laugh, it's Folk Art." Folksy is a fantastic show all around -- many great, unusual pieces to see.
